Married couple arrested and charged with murdering off-duty Texas cop in his home - but their motive remains a MYSTERY
Police in Texas have arrested a married couple and charged them in the killing of an off-duty Abilene officer earlier this week. Officer Don Allen, 27, was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at his West Texas home at around 7pm Monday. On Thursday, Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge announced the arrests of Phillip Walter, 29, and his 30-year-old wife, Violetta Walter, on first-degree felony murder charges carrying a sentence of up to 99 years to life. The pair have been ordered held on $500,000 bond each.
According to Chief Standridge, police discovered property taken from Allen's home near Clyde in the Walters' possession. Investigators also reportedly found physical evidence at the crime scene tying Phillip and Violetta Walter to the killing, reported the station KTXS. So far, officials have not released any details on the cause and manner of the officer's death. Police officers executed arrest warrants Thursday evening, taking the Walter couple into custody at around 6pm at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of South clack Street in Abilene.
