A Denver father-of-two has died in mysterious circumstances in the Dominican Republic, becoming the 13th American tourist to die on the island in a year. Khalid Adkins, 46, who had been vacationing with his daughter, was expected to fly back to the U.S. on Sunday but suffered kidney failure before takeoff and had to be rushed to a hospital, where he died on Wednesday. The death is another devastating blow for the country's crumbing reputation as a tourist paradise, after Delta Air Lines announced it would allow passengers to re-book or cancel their flights to the Dominican Republic without charge. Citing 'recent events in Punta Cana', a post to the company's advisories page confirmed that all flights to, from, and through Punta Cana International Airport will be covered by the waiver. Source

The mother studied Health Science at the University of Florida before taking developmental psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. Michael Earl Kelly, 50, was arrested in February 2018 and was charged with 59 sex-related crimes against children for a string of inappropriate behavior such as having a private explicit Snapchat group with students, exposing his penis, and sending explicit videos of students to victims. His most serious charge was having sex with a child under the age of 16. He was sentenced to 17.6 - 31.25 years in prison for the crimes including sexual exploitation of minor, indecent liberties with a student and indecent liberties with a child on Tuesday. Alarm was first raised about Kelly, a teacher at Isaac Bear Early College High School in Wilmington, when a concerned parent found inappropriate messages between Kelly and their child. Investigators found Kelly had 19 victims – some as young as 14-years-old and the abuse dated back to 2003 when he was a teacher at Laney High School, according to WECT. Source

Police in northern Louisiana say a man has been arrested for shooting and killing a postal worker. Shreveport police said Saturday that 32-year-old Michael Gentry is being held in the city jail on one count of second degree murder. Bond was set at $250,000. Authorities say they believe Gentry shot 52-year-old Antonio Williams as he was bringing mail to the home shortly after 11.20am on Saturday. Investigators say there does not appear to have been a dispute between the two men prior to the shooting. Williams was shot in his upper body. He was taken to a nearby hospital but died a short time later at 12.09pm, the Caddo coroner’s office reports. Gentry was arrested at 6.30pm Saturday and booked into Shreveport City Jail at 9.22pm the same day, booking records show.Source

A man who opened fire on a federal courthouse in downtown Dallas on Monday has been shot dead by police. Brian Issack Clyde, 22, died shortly after exchanging gunfire with officers outside the Earle Cabell Federal Building. Clyde had claimed on social media to be a veteran of the US Army, and a report from the Department of Defense on the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act website obtained by the Dallas Morning News shows that Clyde was on active duty with the Army from August 10, 2015, through February 17, 2017. Clyde had lived in both Corpus Christi and Austin. It was not clear whether he lived in Dallas at the time of the shooting, though he did have relatives who live nearby. Clyde's grandfather Rodney Clyde said over the telephon that he had 'nothing to say at this time' regarding the shooting and death of his grandson. He does not appear to have a criminal history. FBI, ATF, FPS, U.S. Marshals and the Dallas Police Department are investigating the incident. The shooting occurred one block away from where four Dallas police officer and a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer were killed by a gunman nearly three years ago, on July 7, 2016. Source

David Shahar, a health scientist at the University of The Sunshine Coast, Australia, told BBC.com that in the last decade of his 20 year career he has noticed more patients have the protrusion which was once considered rare. Shahar explained to BBC.com that when the external occipital protuberance was first studied by French scientist Paul Broca in 1885 "he didn't like it because he had studied so many specimens, and he hadn't really seen any which had it." In a study published in the Journal of Anatomy in 2016, Shahar and his co-author described how he had been spotting external occipital protuberances more often in x-rays of relatively young patients at his clinic. To find out more, he looked at 218 radiographs of the lateral cervical spine, where the external occipital protuberance appears, of people aged between 18 to 30-years-old. Violent clashes between police and protesters have broken out in the streets of a working-class Memphis neighborhood after a 21-year-old man was shot dead by U.S. Marshals during an attempted arrest in his family's front yard. The violent clashes broke out after Brandon Webber was shot and killed by officers on Wednesday as they tried to arrest him for outstanding felony warrants outside his home in Frayser in North Memphis. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations said officers went to the home at about 7pm to look for Webber who had outstanding with felony warrants. Officers said they saw Webber get into a vehicle and that he then proceed to ram task force vehicles several times before exiting with a weapon. Marshals then opened fire on Webber. He died at the scene, according to officers. The Bureau would not say how many marshals fired or how many times Webber was shot.  Source

Brazil: Couple Stabs Nine-Year-Old Boy To Death After Makeshift Gender Reassignment Surgery 

Rhuan Maycon, 9, was stabbed to death on May 31st by his mother, Rosana da Silva Candido, 27, and lesbian partner Kacyla Damasceno Pessao, 28.

The boy was stabbed to death as he slept after suffering for a year after a botched gender reassignment surgery.

According to Brazil’s Child Protective Services, the boy had a“kind of a sex-change surgery. After removing the penis, they sewed the mutilated region and improvised a version of a female genital organ, making a cut in the groin”

The surgery had apparently been performed with no medical supervision after Rhuan’s mother had decided to turn her son into a girl.

Rhuan’s father had previously contacted Child Protective Services and the police after expressing concerns about the welfare of his son.

Rhuan’s mother and her partner were able to evade the authorities by moving across states and around the country.

Child Protective Services were unable to keep up or save Rhuan’s young life.

Rhuan’s father told the press, “We tried to save Rhuan. We published messages on the social media, we contacted police and the Child Protective Services. No one helped us.”

It appears that Rhuan had suffered extensive psychological trauma from his mother for being male before his penis was severed and his eventual death. Source
